For more information on.Covid-19, a strain of the herpesvirus type 1, has been shown to cause cold sores, blisters, and genital ulcers in patients receiving aciclovir. However, only three studies have evaluated the efficacy of aciclovir in reducing herpes outbreaks. In this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, participants were given Zovirax 5% polydene polyimide oral suspension 200ml at the beginning of treatment and the end of treatment for 7 days. Acyclovir was also given at the same time to prevent recurrent outbreaks. Acyclovir was significantly more effective than aciclovir in reducing herpes outbreaks compared to placebo. The incidence of recurrent herpes outbreaks was not significantly different between treatment groups. In addition, the number of outbreaks was not significantly different in the treatment groups, but the duration of herpes outbreaks was. The most common side effects reported in these studies included headache, nasopharyngitis, dizziness, and dyspnea.
